Pine Tree & Rock was an educational martial arts website targeted towards beginners in Taekwondo and those who were close to somebody practicing the art. This project aimed to visualize complex information regarding Taekwondo’s philosophies, physical practices, and the interaction between the two, with the intent being that an audience unfamiliar with Taekwondo could understand its general structure faster than through studying books or online wikis.

The content of Pine Tree & Rock described the history of Taekwondo, its migration to the United States through the American Taekwondo Association, the color belt philosophies of Songahm, form movements, translations, and illustrations of specific moves and stances.

A reserved visual style was employed to maintain the balance and peace of mind that comes with a martial arts lifestyle, while breaking through the predictable style martial arts can be associated to early Asian culture. As Taekwondo was Americanized through the American Taekwondo Association, it was important to strike an interesting balance between the cultural roots of the art and its future.
